About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Bali, Warung Mai MaaM stands out as a hidden gem for lovers of traditional Indonesian cuisine, specifically the art of Ikan bakar—grilled fish that embodies the flavors of the sea. Located near the tranquil shores of Giri Emas in Buleleng, this local eatery offers not just a meal, but a genuine taste of Balinese culture and hospitality.

Opened under the warm guidance of Cheng and his family, Warung Mai MaaM is a celebration of local fishermen’s catches, cooked with care and infused with a unique blend of spices that make each dish memorable. Customers like Jakob Berndorfer have called it the "best lunch" of their trip, a testament to the restaurant's quality even amid stiff competition from luxury resorts. The enchanting coastal setting adds to the charm, making it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal while soaking in the breathtaking views of the beach.

The flavor profiles of the grilled fish are notable, as guest Gilles De Meester highlighted the "perfectly cooked" dishes that bring out the natural taste of fresh seafood. What truly sets Warung Mai MaaM apart is the warmth of its owners; many customers have noted the friendly atmosphere created by Cheng and his family, which adds a welcoming touch to your dining experience. This connection makes it feel less like a restaurant and more like home—a sentiment echoed by Nicola Galli when speaking of the welcoming spirit that enriches each meal.

Indulging in dishes prepared with locally sourced fished resonates with those who value culinary authenticity. Ábel Fekete emphasizes that anyone visiting Bali should make it a point to dine here, capturing the essence of traditional Balinese cuisine. The presence of families enjoying their meals further solidifies the restaurant's reputation as a haven for both locals and tourists alike.

In conclusion, Warung Mai MaaM is not only a place for delicious grilled fish; it serves as a vibrant reminder of Bali's rich culinary heritage and the power of community and hospitality. Each visit promises a heartfelt experience both on your plate and in the spirit of the welcoming family that runs this delightful establishment. For an authentic Balinese experience filled with flavor, warmth, and ocean views, Warung Mai MaaM is a must-try!

Best lunch of our Bali trip so far - and we had been to some 4* hotels.

Really lovely fish, even my daughters loved it. Betty friendly people!!!

Our visit to this local restaurant right by the beach was a delightful experience! The grilled fish we enjoyed was cooked to perfection and very flavorful. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home! We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious traditional food, warm hospitality, and an amazing view. A big thank you to Cheng for bringing us to his lovely restaurant!!

We met Cheng through a friend and we wanted to try his typical cuisine based on grilled fish caught directly by his family. The restaurant is located close to the sea with a truly local atmosphere! We absolutely loved the food and the welcome from Cheng's wonderful family. I highly recommend anyone to try this place!

If you are in Bali, you must try this place!!! It was very very delicious, thank you Cheng

This Warung is located to a calm small black beach with good view. The food was delicious we tried Mahi Mahi grilled fish. We are thankful to Made cheng for bringing us here for a quick bite.

Best food in Bali! We ate 2different fish and they were amazing, and also the side dishes were delicious. And the price is reeeaallyy affordable. This is family run restaurant in city full of locals, we were the only tourists there. It really was an amazing experience and we were there in time for sunset which was magical!

The restaurant is located right on the beach and has the most beautiful view and nice vibes. We were there on a Sunday where all the locals came to enjoy the beach (typical Sunday tradition) and the vibes and food were like nothing we’ve experienced on our Bali trip so far – really, really nice! We had fried fish, tomato salad, soup, rice and a fresh coconut and it all tasted amazing. Would definitely recommend trying it out!
